LWETB Supported Major Award Programme

ETB Supported Major Award in Employability Skills – Construction Themed (2015/2016)

Kilbeggan Community Group CLG and fellow C.E. scheme, South Westmeath G.A.A.,  initiated a pilot training programme in conjunction with the Longford Westmeath Educational Training Board and the Department of Social Protection, Community Employment Services.

Background

Both Community Employment schemes identified a gap in training provision. It was felt that a number of participants who had previously been employed in the construction industry, prior to the economic downturn, were finding that a lack of certification was a barrier to finding employment, regardless of their practical skills or experience.

The Programme

The training programme was a specially designed Quality & Qualifications Ireland (Q.Q.I.) Level 3 Major Award in Employability Skills. The Major Award consisted of a 8 minor component modules. The chosen modules both meet Q.Q.I. requirements and provide practical skills training required by the participants.
