Fr. Ray Kelly in Concert

The Tyrrellspass Tidy Towns Association is proud to present …. Fr Ray Kelly, “the Best Singing priest in Ireland”, in concert at the Greville Arms Hotel, Mullingar on Friday 29th. September 2017.

Fr. Ray was born in Tyrrellspass, Co. Westmeath in April 1953. In April 2014, Fr.Ray sung a personalised version of Leonard Cohen’s Song, Hallelujah, for Chris & Leah O’Kane on their Wedding day. The wedding was recorded on video and the song was put on YouTube where it has reached 58 million hits! He has performed globally to packed audiences. One of Fr. Ray’s ambitions is to have a series of concerts around Ireland and hopes to bring that to fruition over the next year or two.

Summer Saturday Festival and Best Dressed Lady – August 12th

The Summer Saturday Evening Festival is a whirlwind of excitement, colour and thrilling horse racing in a brilliant atmosphere. The Race Meeting attracts huge crowds from every corner of Ireland where people meet friends, mingle, and make new friends. LWETB Supported Major Award Programme

ETB Supported Major Award in Employability Skills – Construction Themed (2015/2016)

Kilbeggan Community Group CLG and fellow C.E. scheme, South Westmeath G.A.A.,  initiated a pilot training programme in conjunction with the Longford Westmeath Educational Training Board and the Department of Social Protection, Community Employment Services.

Background

Both Community Employment schemes identified a gap in training provision. It was felt that a number of participants who had previously been employed in the construction industry, prior to the economic downturn, were finding that a lack of certification was a barrier to finding employment, regardless of their practical skills or experience.

The Programme

The training programme was a specially designed Quality & Qualifications Ireland (Q.Q.I.) Level 3 Major Award in Employability Skills. The Major Award consisted of a 8 minor component modules. The chosen modules both meet Q.Q.I. requirements and provide practical skills training required by the participants.

Level 3 Major Award in Employability Skills (Construction Themed)

  • Communications
  • Work Experience
  • Computer Literacy
  • Health and Safety Awareness
  • Application of Number
  • Painting and Decorating
  • Floor and Wall Tiling
  • Brick and Block Laying

The programme began in September 2015 and was completed in May 2016. The programme consisted of classroom based learning and practical skills training.

Classroom based learning

Participants attended class one day per week between September and May.

Practical Skills Training

Participants were required to participate in three practical skills training sessions throughout the duration of the programme. Each session was run over three consecutive days and corresponded with the three practical modules offered by the course in;

  • Brick and Block Laying
  • Floor and Wall Tiling
  • Painting and Decorating

The C.E. schemes identified suitable project sites with local voluntary groups for the practical skills demonstration from within their schemes. Both C.E. schemes agreed to purchase the tools, equipment and some of the materials required for practical skills training sessions.

ETB Supported Major Award in Employability Skills – Horticulture Themed (2016/2017)

On foot of the success of the 2015/2016 Construction Themed Major Award the Longford Westmeath Educational Training Board, the Department of Social Protection, Community Employment Services and a number of Community Employment Schemes based in Co. Westmeath decided to pursue a Horticulture themed Level 3 Major Award in Employability Skills. Kilbeggan Community Group Ltd. is very pleased to be among the group of participating Community Employment schemes.

The Programme

The Horticulture themed Major Award consists of 7 minor component modules. The chosen modules meets Q.Q.I. requirements and provides practical skills training required by the participants.

Environmental Worker – Castletown Geoghegan

Job Description:

Duties will include upkeep of the village and approaching roads, grass cutting, hedge cutting and strimming, litter and weed control, general maintenance which includes painting and repairs, upkeep and planting of shrubs and flowerbeds. Upkeep of the playground and car park area and general maintenance of St. Michaels Hall including the setting up for functions etc.

GAA Grounds Caretaker – Castletown Geoghegan

Environmental Worker – Rahugh

Duties will include restoration and repointing of boundary wall and surrounding stone work. Some blocklaying skills desirable.
